CUBE
REEF
VISION AND PURPOSEUSE
The CUBE is an artificial reef intended for the repopulating and protection
of all species of sea organisms that need this kind of habitat for their existence
and multiplication. It also serves as protection of the shore from erosion and
for the creation of underwater sculptures. As they can be constructed even by
inexperienced divers CUBES can be used as tourist attraction for divers. Each
cube is a unique sculpture of irregular forms. This is made on purpose as regular
forms do not belong to the sea bottom. We create irregular forms by removing
the mould before the concrete has solidified completely and then wash off the
cement by a powerful jet of water. We thus obtain:
- irregular forms
- exposed pebbles
In such way the surface is increased three times.Simple construction and positioning
make it particularly suitable for sites that are not accessible to boats, cranes
and concrete-mixers.The CUBE can have 1-6 holes.CONSTRUCTIONThe CUBE is made
of stone chipping and cement (Portland). The balloons used are of special form.
They are provided with handles by which the CUBE is dragged to the site by the
divers. The handles have valves through which the balloons are inflated and
deflated.
The photo shows a diver that drags the CUBE to the site of positioning.
It is important that the CUBE floats even in shallow water.
We use stone chipping made of rocks that are typical for the place where the
CUBE is to be placed. The cement used is Portland cement without any other substances
or additives to make the concrete harder. We do not wish the CUBE to last unchanged
for 1000 years. We want that it changes with time and according to the needs
of sea organisms. No additives are necessary as Portland cement is a natural
material with pH neutral. The rocks on our planet are all pH neutral and are
thus a natural material to be used in the sea water. It is not necessary to
reduce the pH of the concrete as it will soon become identical to that of the
sea water. The pH of the sea water varies at different latitudes (tropic seas
have pH 6,5-6,8., northern seas have pH 8,4) and it would be impossible to obtain
the correct pH value.By moving baloon in mould in different positions you can
create different number of entrances. You can see the construction procedure
in our gallery.IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN A PARTNERSHIP WITH OUR GROUP OR YOU
